Fix INPA Error IFH-0009 – "No response from control unit" Solution
If INPA displays error IFH-0009 "No response", this indicates a communication fault between the vehicle and the laptop. In this guide, we explain all common causes and solutions for the INPA IFH-0009 error.
Cause 1 – Poor or incorrectly wired interface
The error code IFH-0009 occurs most frequently with K+DCAN USB interface cables. These often come from China and can be poorly manufactured, incorrectly wired, or contain the wrong chipset drivers.
Not all Chinese interfaces are bad – but buying cheap import cables is risky. Always buy your K+DCAN cable from a reputable supplier with good quality.
Cause 2 – Incorrect or missing USB drivers
Without the correct USB drivers, your interface cable cannot be installed properly under Windows. Many interfaces come with CDs that contain the wrong chipset drivers – or no CD at all.
Our BMW software package includes a common driver that is compatible with most USB interfaces – even if the manufacturer's driver is missing.
Cause 3 – Incorrectly configured COM port
When connecting a K+DCAN or USB interface cable, the COM port in Windows must be configured correctly. Here's how to set up the COM port correctly:
- Set the USB interface's COM port to COM Port 1
- Set latency to 1
- Enable FIFO option if necessary
Cause 4 – Incorrect pinout of the K+DCAN cable
There is no uniform standard for the pinout of K+DCAN interfaces from different manufacturers. If IFH-0009 errors persist, open the cable's OBD socket and check the pinout. Test the following configurations:
- Configuration 1: Connect pin 8 to pin 7 with a small wire bridge (most common solution)
- Configuration 2: Leave pin 8 physically unconnected
- Configuration 3: Connect pin 7 and pin 8 individually without connection
In most cases, one of these configurations will work. Recommendation: First connect pins 7 and 8 – this is the most common vehicle configuration.
Important: A configuration that works for one BMW may not automatically work for all other models. For multiple vehicles with K+DCAN connection, you may need a second cable with a different pin configuration.
If you don't have a soldering iron, there are ready-made adapters that connect pins 7 and 8 – without having to open or solder the OBD socket.
Cause 5 – Incomplete INPA version
There are many INPA versions on the internet – many of them are incomplete or have missing configuration files. If all the steps above do not fix the IFH-0009 error, we recommend installing the full INPA version with EDIABAS and BMW Standard Tools.
